SWSCHP Selects POMCO to Administer its Medical Benefits
1/8/2008
Effective Jan. 1, 2008, POMCO began administering medical benefits for 20,300 covered lives of the State-Wide Schools Cooperative Health Plan (SWSCHP), a consortium of 23 schools in Westchester county. SWSCHP selected POMCO over long-time incumbent plan administrator, Empire BlueCross BlueShield.
According to Herb Friedman, executive director for SWSCHP, the consortium chose POMCO because of its ability to deliver the SWSCHP health benefit's plan, along with its dedicated client service team and proven track record in the area.
"POMCO has extensive experience administering self-funded benefits plans for school districts across Westchester County and other parts of New York," Friedman said. "It's our responsibility to continuously evaluate our claims administrator to provide optimum delivery of benefits to our members, and after careful consideration, we found POMCO to be the best option for us."
POMCO currently administers benefits for 28 schools and 22 municipalities across New York state, representing 170,213 covered lives, as well as an additional 24,000 covered enrollees with the State of Tennessee. POMCO also works with dozens of additional private- and public-sector companies in the Northeast and nationwide.
POMCO's other regional clients include Westchester County, Westchester County Medical Center, Westchester Community College, St. Barnabas Hospital, Sound Shore Medical Center and Mt. Vernon Hospital, well as Scarsdale, Bedford, Ossining and Carmel school districts.
According to Robert Pomfrey, POMCO president & CEO, the company anticipates hiring as many as 20 additional employees during the first quarter of 2008 as the result of its continued business growth.
