POMCO Group Dunks Employees for the United Way
POMCO Group, one of the nation's largest, independent benefit administrators will raise money for the United Way by dunking various employees, including several executives, in a carnival-style dunking booth on Friday, September 17, 2010 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. The dunking booth is the culmination of week-long events that will be held at POMCO Group's Eastwood corporate headquarters from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. during its annual United Way fundraising week.
The Dunk Tank was an idea that came from a POMCO Group committee charged with determining ways to engage employees with the United Way during a challenging economic season. POMCO Group recognized that even though employees wanted to donate, the current economy made it difficult to contribute to the United Way in traditional fashions. What could be a better way to entice employees to donate money than to offer them the opportunity to dunk their own bosses and co-workers?
The Dunk Tank is one of a number of activities that are scheduled by the POMCO Group committee. "Our employees recognize the impact their contributions have made to the United Way over the years and while they have the same desire to contribute, we understand that they are having to make different decisions regarding their charitable spending. We wanted to find new and exciting ways for them to contribute to the United Way, and the Dunk Tank is a great way," stated Elsa Steo, vice president of human resources. Steo will be one of several POMCO Group employees who will take the plunge on Friday, September 17 from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. in POMCO Group's back parking lot.
True to its carnival-style setup, employees will pay for the chance to dunk employees by hitting a target that will drop them into a tank full of water. The Dunk Tank will occur rain or shine. Employees are abuzz with the opportunity to dunk their fellow employees and bosses, "The last few weeks have been very busy, dunking a few people will be a great way to relief some stress," laughed Keisha Jackson, dental department manager.
In addition to the Dunk Tank, POMCO Group will be holding a host of events and activities to raise money for the United Way including a 50/50 raffle, BBQ and bake sale. 100% of all proceeds will be donated to the United Wa,y along with the scheduled donations many POMCO Group employees commit to each year. Last year, in spite of the recession, POMCO Group contributed $49,298 to the United Way through its employer match program.
