POMCO Group Provides Scholarships for Diabetic Students
Syracuse City Students to Attend American Diabetes Association's Camp Aspire
As part of a joint sponsorship of both the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Syracuse Crunch, POMCO Group provided full scholarships to Syracuse City students to attend the ADA's Camp Aspire, a summer camp for children with diabetes. The scholarships were awarded at a pre-game ceremony, April 9th during the Syracuse Crunch's final game.
POMCO Group is one of the nation's largest independent benefit administrators and therefore recognizes the tremendous impact diabetes has on its members and the community. "Not only does diabetes impact our members and their families, it impacts our own employees. Our sponsorship of the American Diabetes Association is our contribution to preventing and curing this disease. Being able to send children with diabetes to Camp Aspire is an added benefit," states President and CEO Bob Pomfrey.
POMCO Group will utilize two sponsorships as a way to provide five full scholarships for children of the Syracuse City School District to attend the ADA's Camp Aspire. The one week summer camp provides children with education and tactics key to learning to live with diabetes in a fun-filled environment. POMCO Group is supporting the ADA doubly by acting as a sponsor for the Tour de Cure, the ADA's fundraising cycling event. POMCO Group is the Red Rider sponsor, directly supporting those riders who suffer from diabetes. In addition, through its sponsorship of the Syracuse Crunch's Crunch Score for Charities Program, POMCO Group donated a set dollar amount for each goal won by the Syracuse Crunch at a home game for a total of $2,975. POMCO Group has committed the total funds to the scholarships for students to attend Camp Aspire.
POMCO Group relied upon relationships it has built with the City of Syracuse schools to determine which children would be selected for the scholarships. "POMCO Group has supported Huntington
K-8 School throughout the years and we were delighted to offer students the opportunity to attend Camp Aspire," stated Guidance Counselor Maryanne Minsterman. Students from Frazer K-8 School, Hughes Elementary School and Roberts K-8 School were also offered scholarships for students.
